Shaker Heights High School Women’s Rowing team was formed in 1997 when two high school students - Emily Caldes and Kerri Welsh - approached principal Jack Rumbaugh about creating a varsity team. At the time it was one of only two public high school rowing teams in Ohio. The Men’s team was launched in 2012, and the class of 2016 was the first class that rowed all 4 years as a combined team.

Currently, SHHS Rowing is one of four Teams-in-Residence at the Foundry, sharing the boathouse with Magnificat, St. Edwards, and the Foundry Juniors rowing programs.

SHHS Rowing has advanced boats to the Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) National Championships thirteen times. Our student-athletes have gone on to row at Colgate University, Cornell University, Jacksonville University, Purdue University, Smith College, University of Kansas, University of Pennsylvania, University of Texas, University of Vermont, West Virginia University, and more.
