Shaker Heights High School Women’s Crew team was formed in 1997 and the men’s team was launched in 2012. At the time it was one of only two public high school varsity crew teams in Ohio (there are now three - Marietta, Perrysburg, and Shaker Heights). Crew is unique in that most high school students come to the sport as novices - having never touched an oar. Since everyone starts from scratch the team grows and improves together and student-athletes can join the team at any time.

As of 2023, SHHS Crew is one of four Teams-in-Residence at the Foundry, sharing the boathouse with Magnificat, St. Edwards, and the Foundry Juniors rowing program.

SHHS Crew is a member of the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Association (MSRA) which includes 62 schools. In addition to our “home” regatta - Head of the Cuyahoga - we may travel to Buffalo, NY, Columbus, OH, Milford, MI, Nashport, OH, Pittsburgh, PA, and other regattas within the region. We typically compete in 3-4 regattas in the fall and 3-4 in the spring.

SHHS Crew has advanced boats to the Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) National Championships in 11 of the last 16 years. Our student-athletes have gone on to row at Cornell University, Jacksonville University, Purdue University, Smith College, University of Kansas, University of Texas, University of Vermont, West Virginia University, and more.
